Proximity — Tool (QGIS)

In QGIS: Processing Toolbox › Raster analysis › Proximity (raster distance) (gdal:proximity); menu: Raster › Analysis › Proximity (Raster Distance).

Realises:

• Distance surface

Settings that matter

• A list of pixel values to use as target: e.g. 1 for burned cells.
• Distance units: Georeferenced coordinates gives metres; Pixel coordinates gives cells.
• The maximum distance to be generated limits the calculation.

Watch out

• Distances stop at the raster’s edge: make the input raster larger than the study area, or targets just outside are ignored.
