Collection method is the second axis of SPHERE. Twig memberships say what a leaf is about; the collection_method of each realisation says how the delivered data was produced. A processed product is derived_modelled or cartographic_compilation and names the underlying method in derived_from. For example, the DHM terrain model is derived from active remote sensing (LiDAR).
| Method | Id | Realisations | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Administrative Register | administrative_register | 18 | Registered, declared, or legally defined facts maintained by an authority. |
| In-situ / Field Measurement | in_situ | 1 | Observations made on location: monitoring stations, sampling, field and geodetic survey. |
| Passive Remote Sensing | passive_rs | 3 | Sensors recording reflected or emitted radiation: aerial and satellite optical, multispectral, thermal. |
| Active Remote Sensing | active_rs | 0 | Sensors emitting their own signal: LiDAR, radar (SAR), sonar and multibeam. |
| Derived / Modelled | derived_modelled | 6 | Products computed from other data: interpolation, classification, simulation, statistical aggregation. |
| Volunteered / Crowdsourced | volunteered | 7 | Data contributed by communities of volunteers, such as OpenStreetMap. |
| Cartographic Compilation | cartographic_compilation | 4 | Data compiled by mapping: digitising from imagery, generalisation, historical map series. |
