How to Navigate Data
There are seven ways into the data. Each suits a different starting point:
| Start here | When you know… |
|---|---|
| Classical Classifications | a theme from a metadata standard (INSPIRE, ISO 19115, UN-GGIM) and want to see where it lands in SPHERE |
| Collection Methods | how the data should have been produced: register, field measurement, remote sensing, modelled, volunteered |
| Datasets by Collection | the register, for example a Grunddatamodellen registry such as CVR, DAR or Matrikel |
| Datasets by Owner | the organisation that publishes the data |
| SPHERE | the question: navigate the thematic spheres (Atmosphere, Biosphere, Hydrosphere, Geosphere, Anthroposphere) and their twigs |
| Reference Framework | what the data must be located by: coordinate systems, and the administrative units, statistical units and addresses that other data refers to by ID |
| Basemaps | you need a backdrop: topographic maps, orthophotos and satellite imagery, historical maps or terrain, Danish and international |
Leaves and realisations are reached through these entry points rather than browsed directly.

- Data Portals: access methods such as Datafordeleren services (GraphQL, WFS/WMS, file downloads)
- SemanticGIS for QGIS: the QGIS plugin offers the same seven entry points and loads the services as layers
