Some services only answer when the request carries your own key (a token or API key). An access profile records, for one provider, which hosts need a key, how the key is sent, and where you get one. Keys are personal: never put them in shared files, notes or reports.
- Datafordeleren API key — Danish basic data on Datafordeleren (WMS, WMTS, WFS, WCS)
- Dataforsyningen token — Danish maps and data on Dataforsyningen
- CARTO basemaps API key — the CARTO basemaps (Positron, Dark Matter)
In QGIS
The SemanticGIS plugin keeps your keys in QGIS (Settings in the SemanticGIS panel) and adds the right key to each request while it is sent. The key is not written into the layer’s source, so a project you save or share contains no keys: someone else who opens it uses their own key. Services that need a key are marked 🔒 in the panel until you have entered it, and 🔑 afterwards.
Without the plugin, QGIS needs the key in the layer URL (e.g. …?apikey=YOUR_KEY), and then it is saved in the project file — do not share such a project.
