Learning paths
A learning path is an ordered route through the notes on this site. It adds no new content of its own: each step points to the Supporting concepts to read, and to the Tasks, Recipes and Examples to work through. SemanticGIS can be entered in three ways:
- by data: SPHERE starts from what exists in the world and which datasets describe it;
- by domain: Domain hubs start from the questions a field asks;
- by learning: a learning path starts from what you want to be able to do, and takes you through the other two in an order that builds up.
Every path follows the same semantic way of working. A step starts with a question about the world. It finds the data that can answer the question, chooses the operation (an Operator), and only then the tool and its Recipe. You meet the question before the button.
Two kinds of path
- Open paths are for anyone learning GIS on their own, at their own pace. They have no dates.
- Course paths follow a course taught on site. A course path uses the same steps as an open path wherever it can, and adds what belongs to the course: the schedule, the lectures and field work, and the drawings used in teaching.
