Leaf: Statistical Units Dataset: NUTS boundaries from Eurostat’s GISCO distribution service

NUTS (Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics) divides the EU and EFTA countries into levels 0–3. Eurostat publishes most regional statistics per NUTS_ID, and GISCO publishes the matching boundaries.

One identity, many geometries

Every NUTS version is published at five scales, from 1:1M for regional maps to 1:60M for small overview maps. All share the same NUTS_ID, so a statistical table can be joined to whichever scale suits the map. The LEVL_CODE attribute (0–3) selects the level.

Versions

NUTS is revised every few years (2016, 2021, 2024), and IDs can change between versions. A table must be joined to the geometry of the same version. GISCO keeps all versions at https://gisco-services.ec.europa.eu/distribution/v2/nuts/; the frontmatter lists the 2024 version.

Denmark

Denmark has NUTS 1 DK0, five NUTS 2 regions (DK01–DK05, matching the administrative regions) and eleven NUTS 3 units (landsdele). The municipalities are the level below, published as LAU; see Eurostat GISCO — LAU.
