Create grid — Tool (QGIS)
In QGIS: Processing Toolbox › Vector creation › Create grid (native:creategrid); menu: Vector › Research Tools › Create Grid.
Realises: generate grid — squares (Rectangle) or hexagons, or their points or lines.
Settings that matter
- Grid type: Point, Line, Rectangle (Polygon), Diamond (Polygon) or Hexagon (Polygon).
- Grid extent: from a layer or drawn on the map. Horizontal and Vertical spacing: the cell size, in the CRS’s units (metres in EPSG:25832).
- Horizontal and Vertical overlay: overlap between cells; leave at 0 for a tiling grid.
Watch out
- The grid starts at the extent’s corner. To line up with the Danish national square grid, start the extent at round kilometre values (e.g. 715000, 6170000) in EPSG:25832. The European statistical grid is in EPSG:3035 and starts at round kilometres there; it does not line up with the Danish grid.
- A grid is a set of zones like any other: its cell size and origin are choices that change the result (the scale and zoning effects).
